Gabriel Locati
Gabriel Locati is a Philadelphia based classical mandolinist. A Philadelphia native, from the early days of his mandolin playing he has been a member and collaborator with the various mandolin orchestras of the area including Munier Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra and the Philadelphia Mandolin Ensemble. In high school he studied classical mandolin with Pat Mercuri who provided a particular focus on the instrument and its orchestral repertoire. During this time, he placed 2nd in the Junior Division of Rowan University’s 2019 Concerto Competition. Gabriel has received bachelor’s degree in mandolin performance from Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University where he has performed many concerts including as a soloist in their Mosaic 2022 concert. At Boyer he studied with classical guitarist Allen Krantz and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in mandolin performance from the same school. Gabriel has performed a wide array of repertoire and has performed on mandolin, mandola, and mandocello as a solo performer, in chamber music, accompanying voice, as a soloist, and in 2025 was mandolinist for Opera Philadelphia’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. He has focus not only on playing the established and historical mandolin repertoire but also producing and performing new arrangements, transcriptions, and compositions for the instrument.
