The final concert of the Bridge Street Chamber Player's 2025-2026 will feature two works for mandolin and string quartet. First premiered and performed the by composer himself along with the Carpe Diem String Quartet in 2017, Jeff Midkiff's Mandolin Quintet No. 2 is a three movement striking work that fully utilizes the mandolin among string strings. With deep gypsy and bluegrass influences this emotionally dynamic work explores the many textures, techniques and sonorities possible for a plucked instrument with strings with compositional prowess. A mandolinist himself, Midkiff writes for the instrument with precision and highlights the sound of the modern mandolin in America. The program will also feature a world premier of the work "There's a Land Beyond the River" for mandolin and string quartet by Philadelphia based composer Kile Smith.
